Splatsin Civil and Environmental Construction Advancing Critical Sicamous Wastewater Infrastructure Project
Excavation and reconstruction work is underway at the District of Sicamous Wastewater Treatment Plant as Splatsin Civil and Environmental Construction rehabilitates critical infiltration basins to support long-term wastewater treatment capacity and community growth.
Splatsin Development Corporation is pleased to highlight the ongoing work of Splatsin Civil and Environmental Construction (SCEC) on a critical wastewater infrastructure upgrade for the District of Sicamous.
Recently awarded through a competitive bidding process that included several established civil construction firms, SCEC is currently undertaking the rehabilitation of key infiltration basins at the Sicamous Wastewater Treatment Plant.
The District of Sicamous wastewater treatment system was originally constructed in 1995 and utilizes a lagoon treatment process, with treated effluent directed to infiltration basins where water naturally filters into the ground rather than being discharged into a river or lake. Over the past several years, the infiltration system has experienced significant performance challenges, resulting in reduced capacity and operational concerns for the growing community.
The current project involves the complete reconstruction of the infiltration basins, including the removal of existing sand and drainage materials and the installation of new engineered filtration media and drainage infrastructure. Once complete, the upgraded basins will help restore long-term treatment performance and support future community growth.
"We're proud to be contributing to such an important project for the District of Sicamous," said Jeromy Schuetze, Senior Manager of Yucwmenlúcwu’s Civil Construction Division. "This work will help improve the reliability and effectiveness of the community's wastewater treatment system for years to come while showcasing the capabilities of our team."
The project also marks an important milestone for Splatsin Civil and Environmental Construction, the recently established partnership dedicated to delivering civil construction and environmental infrastructure projects throughout the region.

Construction crews have already made significant progress on site, including excavation activities, removal of existing materials, installation of drainage components, and placement of new aggregate and filtration materials. Work will continue throughout the coming months as the infiltration basins are rebuilt and prepared for future operation.
SDC congratulates the SCEC team on their successful bid and the strong progress made to date. We look forward to sharing additional project updates as this important infrastructure investment continues to take shape.
